Environmental Regulation and Business Strategy in UK and Scotland Essay

Environmental Regulation and Business Strategy in UK and Scotland - Essay ExampleThe plan too espouses the maximization of the remaining vaunt by utilizing its dynamism through waste-to-energy incineration plants. Electrical/and or heat energy can be produced by electrocution or incineration of wastes (Scottish Environment Protection Agency, 2011). This is an aspect of concern because the burning of solid and liquid material will produce mixtures of solid and gaseous emission like heavy metals, dioxins, particulates, ash residues, and acidic gases. An incineration plant refers to the technical unit and equipment that are dedicated for the purpose of burning or thermal treatment of waste material and in so doing, produce combustion heat (Council directing 2008/1/EC of the European Parliament and of the European Council ). The definition for the incineration plant includes the site, incineration lines, waste reception, waste storage, fuel and air supplies, post-treatment areas for exhaust gases, waste and wastewater, and all new(prenominal) facilities and devices for control and monitoring the operations in incineration. Incineration of waste is achieved by oxidation, pyrolysis, and gasification. Strictly speaking, the energy produced by the incineration of waste materials cannot be considered renewable energy, but it can sub and supplement the energy that is sourced from fossil fuels like oil and coil, natural gas, and other renewable sources. As stated by the Scottish Planning Policy 6 on renewable energy, the energy derived from waste can help Scotland meet its targets for increasing electricity derived from renewable energy sources (Scottish Development Executive Department, 1997). Energy from waste is therefore considered a part of the response to climate change towards sustainable development. The Renewables arrangement gives incentives to suppliers of electricity to obtain electrical energy from renewable sources (Renewables Obligation, 2007). In S cotland, the Renewables Obligation, and the Renewables Obligation coif were enforced on April 2002. The schemes were introduced by the Scottish Executive and the Department of Enterprise and Trade, and are administered by the Gas and Electricity Markets Authority. The Renewable Orders set the tote up of electricity from renewable sources to 5.5% and 6.7% in 2005-2006, and 2006-2007 respectively. In 2009, the Scottish government published the Renewables Action Plan, which committed the country to achieving 20% energy coming from renewable sources by 2020, which also meant that there must be a large increase in the energy derived from the heat (11% increase) and transport sectors (10% increase) (The Scottish Government, 2009). In the Renewables Obligation (Scotland) Amendment Order of 2011 which was enforced in April 2011, waste materials were already included as renewable energy sources. According to SEPA, incineration can be considered compatible with high recycling rates, which i s also highly dependent on the segregation of wastes. Energy can be recovered from residual waste that cannot be recycled due to economic and technical reasons. despite the economic crisis, the practice of waste incineration has risen worldwide (ecoprog/Fraunhofer UMSICHT, 2010). In the last decade, the annual global capacity of the incineration plants increased from 180 to 350 million tonnes. This can however rise by 20% in the next five years. It is further expected that with landfill sites decreasing, new plants will be

This has served to not only improve the part of recordings but has also worked to make the live performance even more enjoyable. The interesting reality in all of this is that the recording of music has likely pushed the participant to perfect his or her craft even further than in the past. It is utter that Coca Cola entered the Indian market first in 1958, but it withdrew India in 1977 due to a controversy over the copyrights of its formula. Intellectual property is lots not protected in foreign marketplaces. In order for Coca-Cola and Pepsi to penetrate the marketplace in the late 1980s and early 1990s these firms had to negotiate roast ventures with local firms. The researcher mentiones that political environment of India could have been studied more closely prior to these two companies entering the India marketplace. One of the reasons that the companies have been ineffective in this foreign market is because the firms failed to realize that the marketing strategy that worked in Western nations will not be effective in an Asian marketplace. The researcher alike describes an inherent problem of the Indian marketplace, that is that income per capita of the consumers is very low. The researcher also discusses what lessons can each company draw from its Indian experience as it contemplates entry into former(a) Big Emerging Markets and comments on the decision of both Pepsi and Coke to enter the bottled water market instead of continuing to focus on their core products change beverages and cola based drinks in particular, because a lot of consumers prefer to drink a bottle of water over a soda.

Discussing the Situations in Criminal Law Assignment

Discussing the Situations in Criminal Law - Assignment ExampleIntention leads the guilty party to have prior foresight of consequences that will get by take should the act be carried out.It is different from precipitation since on a subjective basis, there remains foresight without the hope of actually bringing about results. The line of work in the courts of law is that the borderline between intention and recklessness is too vague. The court has to decide the extent of the desire to carry out the act and modify recklessness into intention. In DPP v Smith (1961) AC 290, the test was that the individual was taken to foresee and intend to bring about the likeliest actions if he carried out his intentions. One, subjective recklessness In this case, the defendant understands that a risk may occur if a certain action is carried out, still despite knowing this he still chooses to take that action ignoring the results of his actions. This is often seen when the guilty party decides t o drive under the influence knowing full well that his actions could cause an accident. Two, objective recklessness arises when it is apparent to everyone apart from the defendant that there was a risk. Therefore the risk is so apparent that despite the defendant claims not to have considered the risk this is irrelevant. The intention has many different levels at the almost serious intention can lead to murder. The degrees of intention range from pure intention to recklessness dependant on the nature and seriousness of the abhorrence. When the most serious degree of culpability, justifies the most serious degree of punishment both elements are found in the defendants mind. (a subjective test) An individual who plots and carries out an act of crime is thought of like a more serious threat than the one who behaves recklessly. An opportunist might find a sudden opportunity to steal something or become so angry that they harm another. Intention can also arise from the common law princip le as well. One of the most vital sources in the early development of the law on recklessness was an academic piece of work. In his book Outlines of Criminal Law (published in 1902), Professor Kenny discussed the definition of maliciously, with specific reference to arson. A large amount of the information in the book was founded on the judgment in the case of R v Harris. At the beginning of the century, the fundamental state of the law concerning recklessness was that it was a subjective test that determined the mens rea in criminal acts where the necessary mens rea for the defendant was to carry out an act.

Strategic Human Resource Management (SHRM) Essay

Strategic Human Resource Management (SHRM) - Essay ExampleThis is precisely the intellectual why we have witnessed a shift from bureaucratic approach from the beginning of 19th century, to benevolentistic approach. While performing literature reviews and discussion with HR/ HC executives to transform strategic human resource management, I have found that SHRM gives a quantifiable value to contributions made by HR teams and helps them develop HR architecture and workface that aliens well to organizational objectives, giving rise to a competitive advantage. Careful analysis of strategic HRM reveals that human capital management is mandatory for todays rapidly changing environment. In my view, the pace shown by todays organizations and enterprises demand a fast-responding HR management teams that can alter the orientation of human capital with reference to organizational goals. This analysis of todays human resource management practices had made me develop an understanding of this b asic concept of strategic HRM. Through literature review and practical observations, I have observed that SHRM gives a new direction to traditional administrative role of HRM. It is about modify the role and behavior of the workforce in a manner that corresponds to organizational objectives, mission and vision (Vosburgh, 2007). This is precisely the point where the concept of HR business fusion emerges. Going through present theories and thorough discussion with some of HR acquaintances has helped me develop an understanding that HR business partnership needs capital investing which is a sole decision made by organizational leadership. Without experienceing the return on investment, it is difficult for management to provide funds for future developments. Here, SHRM emerges as the crutches that todays weak Human capital managers need. This concept helps HR managers to analyze the value that they can bring to the business like other strategic functions of the organization (Scott-J ackson, 2009). Further discussions with HR executives helped me gain more insight of SHRM theory. In my view, SHRM defines a road map for HR executives via whom they can devise tools for acquiring and retaining able human capital that is well-versed with organizational practices and owns suitable skills set inventory. In addition to that, it is also important to ensure that this human capital is provided with necessary extrinsic and ingrained benefits in order to keep them motivated. Where HRM has core responsibility of above mentioned functions, SHRM moves one step forward by devising frameworks through which HR systems and practices can in truth assist organizational leaders in enhancing organizational performance and development. Hence, in my view, SHRM is a tool for gaining a competitive advantage that allows organizational management to get through its business targets in an effective manner (Becker & Huselid, 2006). This understanding of SHRM function made me perform furthe r analysis of the techniques used or suggested by todays executives for achieving the objectives of this new regime. In order to gain this understanding, I performed a thorough analysis of various organizational models and live case studies. Through this research, I came to know that the foundation of SHRM is an understanding of the organizational objectives and goals in financial terms (Becker & Huselid, 2006). Once these concrete figures are available, HR executives are required to present HRM

Prohibition Era Essay Example for Free

Prohibition Era EssayProhibition in the United States takes effect on January 17th 1920, this is also known as the 18th amendment. This amendment banned the production, distri stillion, and sale of alcohol. The majority of the population pushed this law and wanted it to happen, however they did not realize the consequences to come. The prohibition era would be one of the roughly violent tines in the 20th century.Moonshine is a part of the backwoods culture and prohibition only fuels the fire. With alcohol hard to find moonshiners could charge make it dollar for their product. This got more people interested in the production and distribution of extralegal liquor because the profit popweighed the risk. The problem with this was rookie moonshiners, because they did not know the undecomposed way, or the safe ingredients to produce moonshine. Also with the increased production brought increased law enforcement. The officers were supposed to destroy any moonshine still they foun d but were often bribed to look the other way.Another way alcohol was being brought into the U.S. is by boat. Large carrier vessels would stock up in Canada and Jamaica and drop lynchpin three miles off the coast in international waters, this was called Rum Row. There were over one hundred distribution ships off the coast between Maine and Florida who would stag to any takers. Similar to moonshine the U.S. had to step there game up and beef up the coast guard to catch these rum offshoots. However the runners response to the coast guard was to build bigger and faster boats. Some of these vessels could carry up to two hundred cases of liquor and were equipped with woodworking plane engines. Also some boats could produce a smoke screen and were bullet proof. Then the coast guard did whatever it took to catch the runners. They would even clear fire on the boat and crew to prevent the shipment from making it to the coast. Most of this illegal alcohol was being sold in private clubs c alled speakeasies. These clubs had incomprehensible rooms and walls to conceal the liquor to fool the police if they were raided. Even with the high risk people were drawn to these clubs because of the thrill of being caught breaking the law. Nevertheless out front you could enter into one of these clubs you had to be given the password. But once you were cleared to enter they had all the alcohol you could pay for.Another big player in the Prohibition era was the mobsters. The Bernstein brothers Purple gang and Al Capones uniting Side Gang were the main contenders. They had the public terrorized because they were not afraid to kill anyone, anywhere. The illegal liquor didnt enter or leave the city without there say so. All of this competition caused a gang war to break out between the Purple gang and the North Side gang. In one massacre the purple gang dressed as police and lined members of the North side gang up against a wall and murdered them. With all of this violence in the U .S. people are fed up with Prohibition law. They cognise people are going to drink no matter what the law says. Then to the relief of many Americans on December 5, 1933 President Roosevelt signs the 22nd amendment to change by reversal prohibition.

This service is designed for the organization that ships a large number of packages and documents to regular business partners or employees. Employees and partners can retrieve their package from the closest sorting facility by having a hold placed on any or all immersion packages. Federal Express notifies partners and employees via pre-recorded voice mail that their package is available for pickup at the location nearest them. The service that is being contemplated is a kiosk idea, where customers business or individuals can send packages or documents, as well as pick them up all in an automated system that is based on the needs of the consumer. The kiosk will be on the whole automated and open twenty four hours a day, based on customer needs.Marketing is defined as the strategy-allocating resources (time and money) in order to achieve the objectives of (a uncontaminating profit for supplying a good product or service). The economy uses tactics to get buyers attention in order to further maximum success. Marketing is the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partn ers, and society at large (American Marketing Association, 2008, p. 1).Marketing is vital to any organization in merging the needs and wants of the consumers and if the marketing department is not focusing on meeting the needs of the consumers, stakeholders or vendors, the organization will not be successful. Marketing helps the organization develop a plan, collect data on the target population, examine and explore areas of the organization that will improve services to his or her customers in order to provide top quality services. FedEx marketing department has decided to explore the problem of holding customers package when they are not home to receive these packages. With the current system, customers can pick up their packages at the nearest Kinkos FedEx store, but in order to know if the package is there for pick up, the customer would need a introduce number then have internet access to see if the package is there for pick up but many times, the package is not there before th e driver finishes his or her route, therefore, FedEx has decided to incorporate a kiosk system. This system will create a fast-breaking tracking system and enhance the quality of service provided to the consumers, vendors and stakeholders. The marketing department will create services that would fit the lifestyles of the consumers, by understanding demographics, psychographics, cost and time in providing a new service as well as if the new service will be beneficial to the consumer. Without a clear understanding of the importance of marketing in the success or failure of the organization, misrepresentation of marketing can have consumers going to the competition because of getting their needs better met with faster turnaround services, better customer service and overall, top quality management.Strengths of reputation and organizational processes of Federal Express now known as, Fed Ex are what they have worked hard to create. Companies which have the focus of excellence usually hav e the proper organizational values in a progressive environment. Weaknesses within Fed Ex are between the past upper management decisions to categorize delivery drivers as independent instead of employees of Fed Ex. In 1998, 203 drivers filed a crusade against Fed Ex, citing they were p serve as independent contractors instead of regular employees with benefits.(1) This class action suit would cause competitors to think Fed Ex has less aesthesia to employee requests for better benefits and more importantly working relationships within the company. Opportunities may present of growth within a company for in-house middle management and upper management. Promotions are readily available to the employee who shows they are working toward the growth of the company. Threats may be exhibited in ways which show habits that are representative of carelessness and lack of estimable behaviors of employees.Intrusion of thieves which may attempt to sabotage or rob delivery persons of packages de livered is another type of external threat. Any action which causes the inability to provide the services for which the company is known for may be categorized as a threat. Major mistakes, poor decision making skills, package losses, or failure to deliver on time are all errors which represent key threats to an established business such as Fed Ex. Of these threats they are known as immanent and external threats.Trends may be what a company starts and is shown throughout the city, state or world as a mainstream guide for other companies in uniform fields of service. Other companies may begin to show the public how a stable company works as a level of standards. As a company which is known for delivery, productivity, quality improvement techniques and reputation, Fed Ex is a trend setter. Analysis of the plans of a package holding process will aid with deliveries that cannot be delivered after the second attempt. This is an opportunity for Fed Ex to stand out from among the other del ivery services. Creating a personalized processed to contact the receiver until located will cut costs with returned item shipping, in addition to up-building of customer services. Marketing research can be a quantitative or qualitative process. Quantitative research would be conducting surveys to the consumers. Qualitative research includes focus groups and observational studies. The best marketing research approach for our service would be a qualitative approach. It is the less expensive approach and a more efficient way of getting feedback from the consumer for our particular service. Marketing research follows the guidelines of the scientific process. The research project for this particular process is a 24 hour automated Kiosk for Fed Ex customers to send and receive packages based on their own needs. The succeeding(a) step would be to collect primary and secondary data about the new Kiosk service. Then we can perform qualitative research by use of observational studies, by pi cking a sample of Fed Ex customers to test the new Kiosk service. From the observational studies, we can then stash away the data on how the customers reacted to the new Kiosk service. Once we have all this data we can then summarize our findings and determine whether or not this idea is feasible for Fed Ex. The market research process leads us to our marketing strategy for the new Kiosk service. A good marketing strategy includes a target market and marketing mix. Our target market would be adults over the age of the 18, and our marketing mix would include the 4ps product, price, place and promotion.References American Marketing Association. (2008).
